Ambrose's 1992 book of the same name, produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. The series was broadcast by HBO in two parts over 16 episodes. Part 1 aired on December 15, 2001 and Part 2 aired on December 29, 2001. The series received nine Emmy nominations and won for Outstanding Miniseries. The film was well received by critics and is considered one of the most realistic portrayals of the American soldier during World War II. The series is available on DVD in region 1 (North America). It has also been released on region 2 (Europe) DVD in the UK.Specific GeneralFrom the very first episode, viewers are introduced to "Easy" Company commander Capt. Glover, his executive officer Capt. Winters, Lt. Col. Sink and Sgt. Willoby as they train at Camp Toccoa, Georgia. The series begins with Easy Company's basic-training company commander (Ted Theodore) speaking to his recruits: "You will be assigned to something called a squad. They work in pairs, but you will never know which one is your partner. You will share what you eat or spill, share your guard duty and while you are here at Toccoa, while the rest of the world is at war, what you do here can affect the lives of every soldier fighting on the ground. That's how important your training is." Then the camera shows Easy Company commander (Tom Hanks) speaking to his recruits: "I cannot stress too heavily that each man in this platoon must remember that even though we are in basic training, we are still soldiers. We're not rookies anymore; we're not greenhorns; we're soldiers. We will not be as good as we want to be as long as we think that, that is what being a soldier is. In basic training, it's the first time we have been on our own and have had to rely on each other. It's a lot harder than being part of a regular outfit. We have all got to remember that." The series introduces the eponymous "Band of Brothers" company with their first real battle against a German fighter insertion. As each episode progresses, the team faces new challenges in war including incompetence at high levels of command, combat wounds and frostbite, refusal to follow orders and teamwork in the heat of battle. cfa1e77820
